"SOMETHING SHARP"
The newest registered quartet in the Dogwood Blossoms chorus first started testing the vocal waters together early on 2010. Happy with their new sound and enjoying their time together, “Something Sharp” became official and made their debut at the Dan Emmett Festival in August. They are excited to be singing together in their first show and are having fun working on new music and finding that first “must have” quartet outfit. Meet the members!
Betty Sargent is a native of Lorain County, who moved here in 2004 when she married her second husband, William Sargent. Their family now consists of 4 daughters, 2 sons and 6 grandchildren. Betty was raised in The Salvation Army church where she directed the adult and youth choirs. She also plays the alto horn, trumpet and piano. She sang in her high school choir and performed around Lorain County for one year in group called “The King’s Kids” while in high school. She enjoys music obviously, but also enjoys baking, crafts and traveling. Betty joined the Dogwood Blossoms in 2008 and sings lead. She since then has turned her 17-year-old daughter into a barbershop fan!
Dixie Waite, singing tenor in her third registered quartet, just loves to sing…..anytime, anywhere. She and her husband, Juston, live near Danville. The “lights” of their lives are their two daughters and three grandchildren. Dixie has sung with the Dogwood Blossom Chorus for over twenty-five years, is the tenor section leader, and has been a talented soloist since she was a child. She is a nursing home administrator, in Marion, Ohio, where she manages three long-term care facilities.
Baritone Susan McKinley was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio and was recruited to Columbus for a job at The Ohio State University Medical Center in 1987 where she has worked ever since. Susan met the love of her life on her first day at work in 1987, when she was lost and couldn't find her office, but wouldn't know that until 1990! She and her husband, Jack, have 5 daughters and 7 grandchildren. Susan has always loved to sing and has participated in many traditional choruses, ensembles, church choirs, and plays. However, she has been hooked on 4-part barbershop harmony ever since she was introduced to it in 2000.
Susan Baldeschwiler sings bass and is a charter member of the Dogwood Blossoms with 30 years in the chorus. She is singing in her fourth registered quartet. Unfortunately, the parochial elementary and high school in New York that Susan attended did not offer music or choir. She found an outlet singing in church and learning to play guitar and singing duets with friends. After moving to Ohio in 1972 Susan #2 got hooked listening to husband, Fred, sing with the former Colonial Classics. There was no question about joining the Dogwood Blossoms when they started! Susan and Fred have two adult children and Susan is the special assistant to the provost at Kenyon College.
“Something Sharp” is also looking forward to entertaining audiences in the months ahead! |
