WE SUPPORT OUR AREA!
Every year we donate part of the proceeds from our annual show to a local worthy cause. Part of the proceeds from our November 2009 show will go toward Harmony Camp 2010 scholarships. The 2008 contribution was to Children's Connection; in 2007, we contributed to New Directions. The women of Dogwood Blossoms Chorus are delighted to have a chance to "make a difference"!
This past year marked seven years that Dogwood Blossoms Chorus has provided one or more scholarships to Buckeye Harmony Camp. We were pleased to award scholarships in 2009 to five outstanding young women from central Ohio. Three of the recipients attended Mt. Vernon High School; one attended Madison Comprehensive High School in Mansfield; and one attended Centerburg High School. The chorus was also instrumental in obtaining one full scholarship to Harmony Camp from other sources for another individual plus a partial scholarship; THANK YOU to those who contributed! These young ladies participated in a four-day camp where they received vocal instruction in four-part a capella harmony as well as instruction in choreography and stage presence. They performed along with the approximately 300 campers in the Harmony Camp 2009 Show at Vets Memorial Auditorium on Saturday, August 15. Congratulations girls! We hope you all had a GREAT time!
Young women from our chorus area who will complete grades 8 on through grade 12 in 2010 are eligible to attend Harmony Camp. A Dogwood Blossoms Scholarship application for 2010 Harmony Camp can be obtained from Maureen Hunter, Scholarship Coordinator, by calling 740-668-7222. The deadline for completed scholarship applications is March 31, 2010. For additional information on Harmony Camp, visit www.harmonycamp.org . Persons interested in supporting our scholarship fund may call Maureen as well; this is a tax deductible contribution.
In past years, Dogwood Blossoms Chorus has supported the American Cancer Society Relay for Life in Knox County. Although we are not able to participate as a group at the present, we are extremely proud to have taken part in recent years and to have raised several thousand dollars for a GREAT cause!

A chorus doesn’t just conjure $$$ out of the air to keep all its needs supplied; Dogwood Blossoms Chorus has several Ways and Means projects to fund our music, costume and other needs.
Dan Emmett Festival… Our chorus invested in a used food trailer several years ago to aid in our fund-raising. Each year we set it up on the square for the Dan Emmett Festival in order to sell our “famous” chicken sandwiches and other goodies. The chorus usually performs during the festival.
Malabar Farms Heritage Days… Held in September, we sell our “famous” doughnuts along with other food items for two days. And now and then the whole group will burst into song!
SCRIP... Our members participate in the Great Lakes SCRIP program where we buy gift cards and certificates from various retailers for a discount; the difference goes to help with expenses. Gift cards are bought by members, family, friends, and co-workers and are used for gifts and for everyday purchases. Your favorite Dogwood Blossom member would be happy to get you an order form!
Kroger Community Rewards Program... Our members and their families and friends register their Kroger Plus cards as participating in the Kroger Community Rewards Program for Dogwood Blossoms Chorus. A percentage of each shopping trip is then credited to the chorus. See a chorus member for information to help contribute to our cause!
Annual Program/Yearbook... Every year we compile a program book for our annual show; we include the show program, articles about barbershop, the chorus, our guests, members and other aspects of our chorus. We solicit advertising from local businesses and patrons to make the book possible as well as to raise some funds to support our activities. The books are distributed at our show, additional performances and throughout the community. We would love to include your business or patron ad in our book!
